Here are some guidelines and information on security to keep in mind when carrying out online transactions :
Phishing
The technique is as follows: the user receives an email that looks like it’s from their bank (with the address, logo, signature, etc.). A link in the email sends them to a website that mimics the website of the bank in question. On the fraudulent website, the user is asked to enter confidential information such as their user ID, password, text message code or a code from the BCV Access Card or e-code reader. This information can then be accessed by the people who developed the fraudulent website. BCV will never ask, by email or telephone, for your password or for any access codes provided via text message or by your BCV Access Card or e-code reader. However, if you call our Customer Care service and we need to confirm your identity for security reasons, we may ask for personal information such as your username, date of birth or details of recent transactions. The only time that we may ask for your password or access codes is if there is a technical problem with our site.
e-SIDER.COM and BCV-net security
Our two-layer security system means that only you and those with your authorisation have access to your accounts. This system combines session encryption and a user authentification code provided via text message or by the BCV Access Card or e-code reader. However, not even the most advanced security system can guarantee absolute security, and it is often the user’s computer that is the least secure component. There is always the risk that your computer may become contaminated with a virus while you are connected to the internet. It is therefore essential to avoid downloading applications from sources that are not absolutely reliable. Don't forget to click on "log off" once you have finished using e-SIDER.COM or BCV-net in order to properly close the session. Install anti-virus software and a firewall on your computer. Only open email attachments if you know exactly what they are. If you are not sure, delete the message immediately. Never save you password, user ID or the codes on the BCV Access Card on your computer. Change you password regularly; it’s quick and easy to do. Never reveal your password or access codes by email, telephone or in any other way. Close all browser windows before logging into e-SIDER.COM. Don't forget to click on “Logoff” (top left corner of the screen) at the end of each e-SIDER.COM session. Also, try to avoid accessing e-SIDER.COM in a public place or on communal computers (i.e. in a cybercafe). However, if you do, don’t forget to clear the browser’s memory cache when you have finished. |
